  • Polycarbonate Greenhouse?

    Hi, i'm new here :-)

I'm looking into getting a greenhouse, just a small one say 4x6 but we have a toddler so glass isn't really a good idea.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I imagine they are quite light so how would I go about securing it? I am planning on laying gravel with a slab walkway down the middle.

    Thankyou

    Liza

I have a Norfolk 6" x 8" greenhouse. It was an absolute pain to put together but has now been standing for about 5 years. Personally I think that 6" x 4" is too small - you won't be able to get much in it. Mine is on concrete that was once a garage base, but you could construct a base from heavy timber and secure the greenhouse to that.

I have a Norfolk polycarb g/house (not the budget polysheeted one) also 5 years old
Mine is built on 4in x 4in fence posts layed on the ground.
Lengths of tile batten were driven into the soil every couple of foot and screwed through into the fence post to fix it down
I then screwed through the g/house base rail into the fence posts. Don't think it's going anywhere in a hurry.

A couple of bottom sheets blew in when it was very gusty, so I siliconed them all in, and have had no trouble since.

Just a little tip about a base.

I built a base for my blowaway greenhouse from a large pallet..i went into an industrial estate and found a pallet one of the big ones about twice the size of a normal one. i also got myself 2 normal size pallets and took them apart and attached the peices to my large pallet Making a very sturdy and strong base i then screwed through the metal poles of the blowaway into the pallet and its not going anywhere i tell ya

If you have room for a bigger one Liza get it as you may regret it if you don't. Due to my height, mine is fastened to Breeze Blocks giving me another 8" height. There are several threads on the vine about securing greenhouses, have a good look round & welcome to the vine.

                  Polycarbonate Greenhouse

                  Hi Liza,
I have had a number of light weight green houses but mine just blew away. The one I have now got is of toughened glass so should do what you want. I have 3 grandsons so need something tough. Mine is a bit over 6x8 (greenhouse - not the boys ) and was told it wouldn't be big enough before long! I'll stick with it for a while.
                  Anyroadup, whatever you get...enjoy it,
                  Annie.
