  • Potatoes & Polytunnel

I'm looking to get a cheap (£125) 6m x 3m polytunnel for the lottie, it's going to go where I currently have spuds in. Question - if I build it now, over the existing spuds will it be positive or detrimental to their health - the only negative I'm thinking of is if it got too humid and made them suceptible to blight (they're all maincrop by the way)
    So build now or wait??
    Cheers

I reckon you could put it over your spuds, but make sure it is very well ventilated untill you harvest the spuds

And don't forget you'll have to water by hand for the rest of the season, personally for that reason I'd leave the cover off until after harvesting. I do however always grow some earlies in my tunnel, planting out about 3 or 4 weeks before anything outside and love to get fresh spuds in May, well before anything outside round here.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
