Ventilation question

The autovent opener on my lottie gh has decided to go on strike In there I have aubs, chillies, peppers and melons. They are all planted in beds and mulched with newspaper topped with grass cuttings. My problem is I can't be there to open and shut the gh every day (hence the auto vent). I've left the window cracked open a bit but should I leave the door ajar as well ? How hot can those plants take . There is some shading I've attached to the roof but even so with the door open it's been 40deg in there.

I've left every window and door open, with netting across the door to stop 4 legged intruders. My GH has to look after itself for several days so I'd rather it be on the cool side of hot!

I've been opening the door on mine every morning and shutting late at night. The two auto vents have been opening very early. Temperature in there today reached over 40°c despite my damping down twice. I would open it and leave it if it's secure on your Lottie.

Like VC I've been leaving my netted GH door open overnight and the lowest temp this weeks been 12.c.

Mine also has dead auto vent,vent is left propped half open,door is always at-least partly open as the cat sleeps on a chair in there & to ensure a good through draught I take the apex glass out of the other end.
Debris netting makes an excellent shadeing material & holds easily in place with just a few clothes pegs

Must say the plants that are in there seem to be thriving in the heat........never had so many leaves on a melon before

I removed the top pane of polycarb from the door last week so I can at least keep the door closed but still allow air to circulate via the Louvre & auto vents. Sorry Bins, I know it doesn't help your problem.

I go with everyone else and say just leave the door open altogether. Mine has been open all night for over a week now because even with a functional auto-vent it was getting to over 40c before I got there in the morning.

Yep same here GH house door open 24/7 at the moment and if I could not be there to do the deed in the morning the windows would be the same.

I like this idea for greenhouse number two.I was given it but it hasn't got any vents at all, when hot I'm at the allotment @ 6 to open door. think I'm going to get a louvre.

Bins can't you just get a new cylinder for the autovent, or try putting the old one in the freezer over night.

I dont know if this helps but I have an automatic window opener, no vents in mine, it cost me just over £15 locally. Could get one and post to you. I also leave the door open but need to net the door somehow.

My growtunnel door has been left open 24/7 for the last 4 or 5 days and will probably remain so now.

Can you make a wire mesh panel for the doorway?
This is one I made out of a metal grid I found somewhere and some small hole wire mesh. It drops into the door runner and lifts out of the way.
