  • My most satisfying wet weather job. Cleaning the walls, I don't do it more than once or twice a year because of the coating. It never looks messy or green but the minute you put a sponge or soft brush of water over it the difference is amazing and on a wet day you can see the difference in light levels immediately (or at least convince yourself you can) and, of course the rain helps with the outside rinsing. Just getting the green gunk out of the wrinkles is pure therapy!

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

    • Does anyone else on here have pictures to share or ideas? I would love to see. Actually had some holiday makers stop and ask for a look round mine the other night! That's a first.

      • Here's the polytunnel on 23rd August On the left hand side are tomatoes *Gardener's Delight* with Tagetes *starfire* in front and a trailing nasturtium running rampant amongst them The bees love the nasturtium flowers though so I've just left it to trail around. I've also got a Passion Flower growing up the mesh. Further up, past the tomatoes, are my cucumbers *Marketmore 76 and Hana*

On the right hand side were beetroot, carrots and potatoes which have all finished so now I've sown Iceberg Lettuce (not too good - the slugs like it!), Rocket, Basil (ditto re slugs ) and two types of radish. Then there's four rows of beetroot *perfect 3* as Neil has decided he loves it so much. The final section has three rows of Mustard Spinach.

In the gaps I'm going to sow some Pak Choi, Chard, Winter Lettuce, Spinach & Turnip tomorrow....preferably on the left-hand side as I've noticed anything grown on that side grows well and doesn't get nibbled by slugs and voles!!! At the front are five fuchsia plants I bedded in temporarily a couple of months ago and which really should be moved!!!

          • Here's mine on 23rd August. It's only wee, but it's packed to the rafters right now.

On the left, there's tomatoes (Sungold and Black Cherry), in the baskets are Tumbler and Peardrop. On the right are sweetcorn (almost ready!) and French beans, a cucumber and various chilli plants. You can just make out my Padron in flower in the right corner.

I don't know if you know, but you can help pollination by sliding your hand up the tassels to spread the pollen to the silks. As you're in a polytunnel, there's not much air movement.

              • The pollen's long gone, but yes, I did some 'tapping' when the silks first appeared. Hopefully I've got decent pollination. The tunnel's so small I think air circulation isn't too much of an issue anyway.
