None of the soil seems to be drying

Hi guys

Got a 6x4 walk in plastic greenhouse where I have several Morrisons buckets with peppers and aubs.

I have noticed that even though I watered the pots two weeks ago the soil inside is still wet.

There is plenty of drainage and I keep the door (basically the whole front) open 24/7.

Was thinking of maybe slicing open a new "window" on the other side in order for tgere to be a bit more of a draught.

Am I on the right lines here or could ot be something else?

Sounds a bit strange. Are you just looking at the surface of the pots? How big are the plants, and are they growing and looking healthy?

Ia am sticking my finger on and it feels damp. The top of the soil is going green!

The plants look healthy enough, peppers, some of the bigger ones, are about a foot high and bushy. Nothing looks stuntebasically.d

they don't respire as much in cooler weather, so they will need less watering.

In the gh itself it can get upto 40degrees if theres a bit of sunshine.

Can it rain in through the open door?

You need to open the door and windows to stop it getting that hot. 40 degrees will cook plants.

It's amazing how hot it can get even with the door open.

Its mostly the plants at the back where the rain cant get in where they are mostly still wet. As I said I think it may be an airflow issue.

But are the pots maybe too big for the plants? If you have plants in the correct size pots then they will take up the water from the compost and stop it getting so damp and mossy.

Are the pots raised off the floor so that water can drain out?

are you sure the rain can't get in? because if it can get to 40 degrees, it can get to that throughout the greenhouse. Check there aren't any drips the next time it's raining, or that condensation isn#t dripping onto the plants. Is any of the foliage touching the sides of the greenhouse?

I have an 8x6 GH and this year I am using a lot less water than ever before on all my plants. Usually it would e once a day at the moment its more like once a week. The outside atmosphere is very humid at this time and I think it will remain that way until we get a change of weather.
