  • Stay-puts and blow-a-ways

Heard these mentioned a few times. What are they? and are they confusingly contradictory names for the same thing?

I'm assuming they are those little plastic greenhouses, but aren't sure.

Blow away's are the little shelved ones you use for raising seedlings etc. Not sure about stay puts but i'm guessing it's the much larger ones you can tie down such as my large 8 foot hexagonal one

These are both blowaway greenhouses. The one on the left had sensibly been tied down, the one on the right hadn't

A blowaway is what you get when you're first starting out. A stay put is the next step - ie a grown up greenhouse - if you have space and can afford it.

Bren's got it. I had three blowaways that did just that, so I've graduated to a small 6 x 3 fastened to the wall, which I nicknamed "stayput". You never know, one day I might get to the lofty heights of owning a "proper" greenhouse or tunnel. Hope this has solved the confusion lukens!

BTW, my three blowaways were tied down and had sand bags on the bottom shelves, but the wind was so strong it whipped off the covers and pulled the metal poles apart, just leaving the bases behind!

Yes, I had wondered too, but living where i do I figured everything is a blowaway in a strong enough wind. Even some people's houses.
