  • Netting for greenhouse door

    Hi
I read that some of you have got netting to put over your greenhouse door when it is open.
Do I need to do that for mine? Im really sorry if I sound silly but what is the netting keeping out?
My greenhouse is in my back garden and I open the door every morning and close it in the evening.

In my case it's to keep the dog and the neighbourhood cats out, while still providing ventilation.

Oh I see. Well we dont have any pets yet but we do get the occasional neighbourhood cat passing through but they tend to just scoot along the fence or along the back of the garden.

For me its birds as they fly in and pinch the grapes!
And squirrels that plant their nuts in the borders....

Foxes for me but I don't put netting up, I just remove the top panel and leave the door closed.

Mines to keep the birds out I hate the thoughts of them hurtling into the glass trying to get out.

I'm amazed at the variety of answers. I put up a net as an insect screen.

The netting on my polytunnel doorframes keeps out chickens, ducks, neighbourhood cats etc...

We have 1-inch square netting, meaning that bees etc can still get in and do their stuff....

Thanks very much for your replies everyone, very interesting.
Im not sure I need a net myself then as I have no roaming wildlife.

Erm yes there is and do you know you saying that just reminded me of a time a pigeon actually got stuck in my neighbours greenhouse, made an awful noise and mess! Took them ages to get it to calm down so they could get it out!!
Ok well A freind of mines got a load of chicken wire spare and they actually asked me today if I wanted it. Would that be ok to use just as some sort of net??

If you use chicken wire you'll need a frame for it so that you can move it out of the way to get in. I use plastic mesh, attached above the door frame and use clothes pegs (the essential gardening tool!) to peg it to the side of the doorway. There are sure to be better ways
