Plastic greenhouse, is it worth it?

Have ordered all my seeds, thank you darcyvuqua.
Have asked my local builder who will happily give me his used 1 ton bags when he is done with them and got a few blue Ikea bags for growing in. Thank you veggiechicken.

Now my plan is to clear the kitchen table and to start my seedlings in there once the time is right and I'm wondering if I should get a cheap greenhouse For when they are bigger and I want more space in the kitchen? We have a path along right next to the house, my OH is pretty sure we can secure it quite well. So is it going to be worth getting it? I would happily leave larger seedlings on the path itself, but I have a dog who likes to dig up soil whenever she sees it also I'm in Aberdeen so it could well snow in June... haha

My thoughts are its worth a try, particularly at that price. But I'm a total newbee to gardening so I am easily swayed by pretty things the internet tells me I *need*

They are better than nothing,if you purchase one get an extra cover for it and weigh it down with bricks at the bottom.

Great advice thank you! We have Breeze blocks so I think OH plans to use those to secure it somehow? He talks I ignore.... its the way we do things And I found a replacement cover already for it on ebay for a tenner!

I have one of those tiny 4 tier ones and I am very happy with it. As long as they are weighed down well you will be fine.
I start my seedlings off in the house and, as soon as it gets warmer I pop them in my little greenhouse to get some light during the day and back in at night. I find that a couple of tea lights raises the temperature in there when it isn't quite warm enough.
I'd say go for it.

i bought one of those plastic greenhouses and the stuff inside grew well,but despite it being weighed down with two of those massive kerb stones,solid concrete,once the usual winter winds started blowing,70-80mph+,the greenhouse decided to take off and disappear,seen in the air by a neighbour 1/2 mile away,so my aluminium g/house is sitting on a concrete base and the base is concreted onto that,you wouldnt believe how much it can flex and distort,when we had 100mph+ winds about 18 months ago ,it was shooting the glass out of the frame and we found some over 50ft away and being safety glass,all still intact,with the plastic,your best bet is a lean-to you can fix to a wall,we have done this before and it survived the big storm in surrey in 87,all the neighbours lost theirs to the hurricane winds,so good luck and enjoy your growing...

Buffs, I'm thinking that the plastic greenhouse, we possibly can secure to the wall... But if not we have a path around the side of the house which is really very sheltered so it can live there during the winter months. Thank you

Welcome to the vine LP, as has been said, blowaways are ok if you anchor them down well. It won't be long before it is not enough and you will want a greenhouse.

No space for a green house Im afraid, maybe when I finally get a 3Bed house I will have space... Right now there are me, my Oh and three kids in a two bed :O so I need an upgrade!

You can pick greenhouses up that are 2' wide or a lean to.

Look at it as an investment. Tell him he's lucky cos when you get your upgrade, you'll want a 12'x10' as a moving pressie........

I upgraded my plastic blowaways to a rigid plastic lean to one with a metal frame that secures to the fence (or in your case a wall). Its excellent. It came with 2 shelves which are just about deep enough for a growbag and I use those for cucumbers and the floor is usually full of pepper and chillis in pots in te dummer. Before those I do use it for seedlings in spring (while the chilli's etc are indoors!). Highly recommend it

with a lean-to you do get the residual heat from the wall radiated back to your plants, and some are very slim,i had a large(about 8 x 4) lean-to from those norfolk g/houses, and it did survive the 87 weather undamaged,they may not be "posh",but it does do what it says on the box,and as a broke newby at the time it was magic.i had grow bags against the wall and the other crops along the front,grew my first melons there(still doing them ,its that sweet homegrown taste,100% better than shop bought),and it was those early successes that made me love my gardening..so go on,give it a go and enjoy the taste difference..

We have reached an agreement! I tried doing this all this year and it didn't happen so we are going to get the plastic one for the start of next year and as long as I do stuff over the year we will buy the Lean to at the end of the year / start of the following year

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I would however take it down and store it somewhere in the worst of the winter.

You need to ask Aberdeen Plotter about planting times etc he is the expert in your area.
