cracked heating pipe

well it looks like the radiator system in the greenhouse needs a little TLC as a section of the pipe has decided to spring a leak. the pipes are cast iron pipe so obviously there not very flexible, what i had in mind to fix them was maybe some exhaust gasket like they use on cars and bikes. do you guys think this may work or does anybody have a better idea they can chuck at me ?

I presume you mean the old 4" cast iron pipe with lead knock joints?

it looks to have been repaired in the past but its burst open again. its not major bad but its bad enough to warrant something doing about it

Screwfix do a self amalgamating tape but the pipe would have to be very clean for it to work.

Never used this myself a bit on the expensive side

They do it in 1m or 10m
I would clean the area of pipe first with sand paper or wire wool
then dry it clean then apply the tape.
I would also put some antifreeze/rust inhibitor in the system if you are draining it down

If its dry then you could use high temp silicone over the area and top it with a piece of plastic guttering held in place with a couple of jubilee clips.
