Hot Thai Birds Eye

Well just ordered some Chilli Pepper (Hot Thai birds eye) and some sweet peppers (Marconi Reds) for in the green house over this winter. I was speaking to an old timer who runs an allotment just round the corner from mine who has owned the same allotment for over 50 years can you believe that. anyway I got chatting and he was telling me all about how he enjoys his curry's and strong peppers and what not and he has had quite a lot of success growing stuff like peppers and curry plants in one of his little greenhouses so I just ordered a few seeds and think I am going to give it a whirl myself as I like to blow my head off with vindaloos also lol.

Anybody else growing anything similar at this time of year and what results are you finding? any input or advice on growing stuff like peppers and chilli's would be gratefully appreciated.....Thanks

Don't sow your chilli seeds until spring. They can't be planted out till after the last frost.

I normally sow mine in a heated prop in February....it's been a poor year so far this year for ripening with the lousy weather.

I'm sure if you ask the seasoned Allotmenteer he will give you some planting advice. Never had a hot thai birds eye.....but they sound great.....I believe you can sometimes get them mixed up with other varieties quite easily.....but not twice!

well the old timer I got chatting to grows them in pots in his green house all year round he never seems to have any trouble growing them so that why I ordered the seeds today cause I love my chilli's and peppers so I fancied giving them a go myself.

One of you has got it wrong. I think you are setting yourself up to fail if you plant them now........not enough light or heat in a greenhouse to get them started......let alone fruiting!

However we're here to help and would be very interested if you've found a variety that contravenes this advice.

Either that or what can you do with loaves and fishes?

heat is not a problem i can generate that using the coal / wood burner as i have radiators running round the GH ... as for the light i could probably provide that as well but i don't fancy leaving my generator down there 24/7 lol
