Don’t lose heart Katog, personally I think it’s a really interesting idea and well worth a try. There have been earlier discussions (which I can’t locate just now…) about how fairly simple “heatsinks” in greenhouses can make an important difference when night temperatures drop to freezing… (I know that only too well, I still use beer cans painted black, another story and cue for a song…). You seem to have room for a substantial heap in your large polytunnel but in a greenhouse maybe an emptied summer-time water-butt with fresh manure/straw (+ lid!) could act as a heatsink? (Wormeries survive winter temperatures on much the same principle.) The problems of daytime fluctuations, dampness, botrytis grey mould etc are going to occur anyway so will need regular monitoring with or without. Do you visit your polytunnel every day? I think you should do it and let the rest of us know what happens.
