  • Building a green house

I received 2 x 8x6 green houses yesterday well a receipt pending delivery!

It will be delivered to my house so my question is-

Could I build the sides at my house and carry it to the allotment or will I have to assemble it at the allotment ie build the sides and erect the frame before inserting the glass at the plot or am I way off with my thinking???
In the following link you can follow my recent progress on the plot

Santa has been very kind to you, darcy
Can you transport an assembled side? The most important thing is to get the base ready, level and square, before you even think of putting a GH there. I'm sure an expert will be along soon

How far is it from your house to your allotment?

Rusty's question is pertinent as are VC's comments about the site being level and square. If it is manageable it is possible to construct the sides and transport them and then complete the job on site.

my plot is just at the back of my house i do however have to go to the access point which is the next street over and up a small hill would i be able to carry a side up there would of course be two of us!

the base is the very first job i will not be doing anything until this is sorted and level

I've carried sides of GHs (and complete GHs) - not on my own because they're unwieldy round corners!!
As AP says, they're very light!!

If there are 2 of you darcy, I reckon you could make up both sides and both roof sections and cary all 4 pieces together. Just fasten it together with cable ties or string to aid stability.........Lucky you.

                    Thanks guys.

The only problem with pushing it over the fence is that I would have to trample over someones plot and right next to the fence they have garlic, parsnips and a few things in those small cloches otherwise it would be an ideal situation as long as there able to be carried round im going with the option.

My neighbour gave me my GH and the 3 of us lifted the whole thing over a 5ft brick wall (without glass) it was a bit wobbly but was easy enough to manage so carrying just one side will be fine.

If you can get the plot holders permission to do it,lean two scaffold boards 3ft apapt on his side of the fence then lay two more 4ft apart on your side, assemble (but do not glaze) the green house, then slide it up & over the fence on the boards easy, peasy lemon squeezy
