  • Leanto greenhouse

I may be able to get hold of a secondhand Access 5' Harewood leanto. Has anyone had problems with icicles falling from eaves and leanto greenhouses? I'd guess the glass is probably able to withstand that happening?

Does anyone have one of these, looking at the Access site, it says the greenhouse comes with middle staging, is this removable? I was thinking if it was, it'd be ideal for growing a single tomato plant in in the summer. And it doesn't seem to need a base constructed? Is this also correct?

The greenhouse I may be getting is presently in the garden of a rented house so I can't go and look right now and the landlord isn't able to answer the questions. It's a question of me getting my bid in first, before the present tennants do.

Don't know the answer really but can only assume if it was an issue they wouldn't be made/sold. I did consider one when buying my little greenhouse and never even though about it. If the roof is toughened glass rather than horticultural glass it is pretty tough. I went for toughened as at the time the boys were small but the footballs weren't! If it was horticultural glass I guess if you were worried you could in time replace the glass in the roof. Hopefully the icicle threat has gone for another year.
Don't know about the staging either, but could you email Access? Personally I'd go for it. I have staging in the greenhouse but only remove the shelves for tomatoes and cucumber times as I've nowhere else to store the frames during the summer. You might be able to do this too.
I think they are designed to go straight onto a patio so no base needed.

Its says its toughened glass on the website Harewood 5' 0" mini greenhouse - Access Garden Products
This one Access Harewood 1' 9" x 5' Greenhouses > Mini Access Harewood 1' 9" x 5' says its a toughened glass middle shelf - I'm guessing its fixed - but thats just a guess!
I'd go for it if the price is right!

We have a lean-to greenhouse, but it has a polycarbonate roof and seems to cope with falling icicles okay. I don't know how it would cope with a lot of snow sliding off the main roof, we just cross our fingers and hope. There was a snow board on the main roof but that rotted some years ago and the crossing of fingers seems to have worked since then.

          OK, thanks.
I hope I can get it, because I need it for overwintering and growing things on in modules, even if I can't grow toms in it over the summer.

I have an Access Harewood. The centre staging is glass, and is removable. I grew 3 tomatoes last year. They reached up to the top glass and had to be pinched out. They cropped very well.
