  • Poly Glazing

    Hello All,
New here and looking for a few hints. I have read here that you can use silicon sealant on polycarbonate glazing to help prevent damage from strong winds. What I want to know is do you put it on first or after the poly and W clips? I have all the rubber seals over the seating for the glazing. TIA

Hi Bob and welcome to the madhouse.

I would lay a bed of Dow Corning 799 sealant then push the polycarbonate sheet down into it.

Welcome to the vine Bob, all of my panels are held in with 3 horizontal bamboo canes 600mm + a couple of mm to give a little tightness of fit if that makes sense ( 1 at the top, middle & bottom). My reason is if I have to move the greenhouse for any reason, it's easier to remove & re-use the canes than it is sealant. I have used the same canes for the last 3 years. I'm not saying silicon won't work, just my preference.

        Colin,
I have looked at Dow Corning and they say it is unavailable in the UK. I shall use another equivalent, thank you for the reply.
        Bigmally,
Thanks for that, but I think I will use silicon as it is (hopefully) going to be permanent.
