My Hispi cabbage seedlings died in the cold greenhouse, so I've just sown some more on the windowledge indoors - hopefully it'll warm up a tad by the time they need to go out there again!

Bit late starting this year but today I have had a stock take, cleaned up my pots and scrubbed all my plant labels.
Off to the garden centre to get some compost later to start off my toms indoors as the greenhouse went down to -2.2 this week!! God only knows what it was registering outside in the back garden but the dogs sure aren't happy walking on the frozen grass or grassy bits!!

My seedlings in the greenhouse are all fine...phewee. Cress in a pot had flopped in my sickness absence. Anyhow I have watered in there and in the poly. Garlic really thickening up now. Planted some more Broadies out. Mr VVG has made me another hanging shelf for my polytunnel. I am very happyLook deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Yesterday I got greenhouse #2 ready for the season ahead. I've had the beds covered all winter so no weeding needed. I just tuned the soil over and did a little light hoeing then recovered.
Sorry for the large photoChris

Been out ot my two negelected greenhouses and cleared all the old compost pots out and tried to clear the couch grass and thistles growing through the gravel beds.
Can anyone recommend a good wildlife friendly weedkiller that would deal with the underlying couch grass and thistle roots in the gravel beds? All my veggies and plants are grown in pots or on staging.
It is a last resort but after years of hand pulling these weeds - and losing - I have to be realistic....The cats' valet.

Walked down to the new plot and cleared the snow from greenhouse #1's roof. Stuck around for half an hour drinking coffee and filming a little video.. It will take me an hour to walk up to greenhouse #2 in this snow so I'm going to leave that one till tomorrow.Chris

I got the snow off the poly and noted it was 12°c. I did the same off the greenhouse and it was 8°c. Outside was 5°c.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

I put a raised bed in the greenhouse, just down one side. If I want to do the other side I'll need a stone cutting disc for an angle grinder because the concrete is sloped rather than straight. I intend putting in a wooden frame down the side I raised and having stuff grow at waist height too, I'll put shelves at the back for tools and empty pots etc.
It's bolted into the concrete so it's very stable, the bit along the inside is well screwed into the other bits and if it was 1 mm longer it wouldn't fit between the front and back bits of concrete so it's well secure too. It should definitely support a frame for a higher bed on top.Attached Files

I knocked snow off again today, sowed strawberry seeds into trays. Also pricked out a few more toms. Left it at that as too cold. Brrrrrrr!Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein
