  • Halls or Simplicity? Any big difference?

    Hello everyone :-)

Could you please help me decide between a Halls Supreme 6x8 and a Simplicity 6x8? Both toughened glass with extras chucked in (both have two roof panels, 1 louvre window and openers on windows). Difference is £200 (Halls more expensive).

My question - is the Halls worth the £200 more? Can someone please advise on their findings of quality and ease of putting up?

I'm leaning towards the Halls, but purely for aesthetic reasons (curved roof panels), but will be swayed towards Simplicity if the quality etc. are deemed better.

Much obliged and looking forward to your views, as I can't wait to order which ever one

Hello Heidi and Welcome. I haven]t looked at these two greenhouses but, if you say one has curved roof panels and the other one doesn't, then that probably accounts for most of the cost difference. So you may have to decide whether the aesthetic value is worth £200!

Personally? If I had the room, I'd spend the extra £200 on a larger Simplicity. It's brand names really, I asked about it when I bought my GH (was between a halls and a popular - turns out the popular was a spin off of the place I bought it from - pretty much their own brand if I remember correctly). I then went for a 6x10 on the popular, as it was cheaper, and on offer.

Personally I would avoid curved glass like the plague,I advise you ask for the price of a replacement roof glass pane

The only greenhouses I have seen with a curved profile have flexible plastic/perspex fitted on the curves. Not saying you don't get them with curved glass but as BB says, curved glass replacement s would be on expensive(very) side

I've spent most of the last few months staring at greenhouse specs and reviews whilst I choose one for our patio. We've gone for the Simplicity 5ft 3 by 6ft 3 - being delivered next week so can't tell what it's like yet, but it's the one which stood out as being very good in terms of the various features, good price and generally positive reviews. I had my head turned briefly by a curved panel too, but decided I preferred the classic greenhouse look in the end!

Toughen curved glass has to be cast that shape, the manufacturer probably gets it at a reasonable price by ordering in bulk.

But and its a big BUT if that manufacturer stops ordering for any reason then the cost of replacements will sky rocket, to the extent you would probably find it cheaper to change the green house.

Wow, ok. Haven't thought about that. Mmm, decision time!! Thank you for all your replies. Still not sure whether one is better quality than the other, but I suppose they are not far off. Can't wait :-)

I looked at at Halls before I opted for a Swallow timber greenhouse. I remember being impressed with how tough they were.

The curved panels on the Simplicity is acrylic not glass. I wonder how scratch resistant it is?

Wise choice, if I may say so!! Can you fit in a larger one? You can be sure that whatever size you buy, in a years time you'll wish it was larger!!
