Auto vent opener for growhouse?

Hi all,

I'm suspecting the answer will be a no, but will say upfront I'm happy to do some DIY fitting and have it fail....but does anyone know whether it would be possible to fit a automatic greenhouse vent opener to a small wooden growhouse (similar to the type you can get in homebase in their "grow your own" range)? And if so any suggestions?

Because of my commute and working hours its not always going to be possible for me to open/close the top of the growhouse manually, and my garden can be a real heat trap.

It can be done but you only need to buy the piston similar to a louvre vent opener. Hope this vid gives you some idea.

I have Bayliss ones Bayliss XL Greenhouse Auto Vent: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors It says they can be screwed to wood.

From the OP, I am assuming we are talking some kind of cold frame....so with that in mind, the problem with auto vent openers is that they are fastened to the front of the frame & also the lid so you cannot open the lid manually once its fastened......If we are not talking cold frames, I'll keep my nose out........

I'm having a sense of deja vu here!! I imagine the OP has one of those tall thin GH/coldframe thingies - with a liftup top - so you'd better keep your nose in

Could you fit one of these in the side that would get over the problem of not being able to open the lid once the vents fitted. :-

Yes, it's similar to the one veggiechicken has linked to - so not being able to manually open the lid isn't a problem as I have the doors at the front. Done some searches based on your replies and seen people have fitted the Bayliss XL to coldframes with the only downside being inability to open the lid, so looks perfect for me! Think that's what I'm going to go with

Now, I've seen the pic, it should work perfect. Just be aware that the piston may encroach on your top shelf as they come down at an angle & are quite long.

Well this has arrived, and been fitted...took afew adjustments, and when the weather is warm enough to getting things moving I'll know if my adaptations have worked!

And if they have I'll proudly post a photo.

Glad to say this has worked not seen it myself yet (guess that was the whole reason for installing it after all!) but have been told the lids opened and closed itself.

Just had a quick read of these before I have to go out and the term 'lid lifter' sounds a bit risqu� to me lol!
