  • New undercover fruit trees.

I collected my dwarf fruit trees this evening, a fig for the polytunnel and a nectarine for the greenhouse. I'm hoping they grow to about 6' and no bigger. It's just for something a little different.

They're about 3' tall at the minute and cost €54:99 each. It's quite expensive but €10 cheaper each than the other local garden centre.

Well good luck with your fruit trees. They will certainly make the greenhouse more interesting. For mine, I decided to try olives; after all they are fruit trees also. I wanted something kind of tropical and permanent, instead of just growing tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers over and over. And, I just noticed one small tree has set about six olives. Not much, but certainly a start.

I would like a lemon tree.
I lived in South Africa for quite a while in the 70's and we had a massive lemon tree, well it was a bush not a tree, outside the kitchen door. It was lovely, so fruitful and it smelt amazing for most of the year.
Is the best place to grow one in the poly tunnel or in the greenhouse. Would I bring it out on the brightest of days or put it in the tunnel or leave it in the greenhouse... I wouldn't want it to scorch.
      All help appreciated please.

We had a dwarf lemon for several years which we placed outdoors from mid April until frost. In the winter I put it in the basement and gave it about five hours of fluorescent light and very little water. It would have lemons and flowers at the same time and was not a bother at all. We gave it away as we had too many plants and too little room. My advice, go for it.

Lynne, a friend of mine had a lovely lemon tree that she brought home from Spain. It lived in the garden on the patio all summer and was put in the greenhouse for the winter.

Im seriously contemplating getting one. One of the seed merchants has an offer on at the moment, cant remember if its buy two get save £20 or something like that. I might get a lemon and a lime so I can make curd and for cool summer drinks, lemonade, limeade etc. I might treat myself.
