    be very careful

i planted out all my seeds in my cheap greenhouse last year, and after 2 weeks they were doing brilliantly, until one windy day they were all dumped on the floor, even though the greenhouse itself was secured, because it still moved from side to side...., so be aware, but i hope yours is ok

we've got a metal railing fence that runs around the garden and I've had my tall growhouses securely fixed to these for the past year with no issues.

I've decided to have the plastic greenhouse facing the house so that the doorway is at right angles to the crosswinds that blow through the garden, which I think might help to reduce it turning into a kite.

I'm also going to dig it into the ground and bury the foundation a little bit. I've then got some heavy duty washing line that I'm going to use to tie to the fence and run over the top of the greenhouse and fix onto wooden posts dug into the ground on the opposite side.

I'm determined to keep this thing in place!

Thanks for all the tips. It's been a beautiful day today and I could've gone out today to set it all up, but got a terrible hangover from drinking late with long lost friends who came over from Denmark - we haven't seen for two years...

be very careful! I couldn't understand why my little greenhouse ( my first foray into growing my own) kept ending up on the floor until i realised that my very large bengal cat was using it as a stepping stone to sunbathe on the shed roof!!

Well I spent most of the day in the garden yesterday - laying paving slabs next to my vegetable patch and levelling off the ground next to this path to install my greenhouse, which I then did.

It's been a really windy day today and it's still standing!

I used the guy ropes provided and attached these to the metal railing fence and then hammered some very long posts into the ground on the other side to tie the guy ropes to. I also dug it into the ground a little bit and buried the base of the frame under a good pile of gravel. I also strapped the upright poles that stand next to the fence to the fence with wire at the middle and bottom of the poles for extra security.

I've got a feeling it's going to stay put, but who knows!

Same trouble so I got 4 four foot posts and put them a foot into the ground at each corner on the inside. Using some of those ties that you pull one end through the hole on the other and it tightens up, attached the frame to the posts. I doesnt move around much now but it has ripped a bit by the zip where I left it partially open for ventilation. It was worth the extra 95p each post.

I got mine for £20 from Homebase but I think I will invest £10 in the stronger replacement cover which will give some shelter from the sun as everything is looking as though it could be scorched.

mine seems to be doing really well, although it is only day 1. But it's incredible windy and I've been in there today potting up seedlings. I love it! I've never had a greenhouse before and can't wait to get all my stuff in there and really get going - run out of compost so can't do much more now.

Just ordered some Coir blocks though, so when they arrive I'll be mixing them with my vermicompost and going for it!

I wouldn't lower my standards to take anything from BT - I hate them!

I know - Ugly! But useful! It's really warm in there! I was in today transplanting some seedlings - blowing a gale and raining hard outside, but nice and peaceful inside.

That's the main thing Eskymo. Doesn't matter what it looks like so long as it does the job.

                          tent

My auntie has bought a thing from Lidl which she thought was a cold frame but turned out to be a tent about 3' tall at the apex and about 4' wide. It's got a giant zip-up opening on one side, with netting. It looks like it would fit nicely over one of my beds but I haven't had a chance to see whether they've got any more in stock. And it cost £11. Looks a bit weird but that's the zeitgeist down our allotments.

I got a walk in green house from aldi last year and loved it- once i got it to stay put. It was the first bit of space that was all mine for 16 years!! no one could could come in without an invitation it was great, had christmas decorations up all summer nobody could complain. Sadly it went to that great greenhouse place in the sky- across the field - up the road you get the picture, i have collected most of it and will put it to good use- have fun with yours

Hi Rosheen and welcome to the vine. You are the only other person (that I know of) from the south of Ireland. Good to see another Irish person on here. Hope you enjoy the chat as much as I do.
