I've begun to think about watering solutions for the greenhouse when we're away for a week at the end of July. I practiced a minimal watering regieme on my outside plants last summer (well prepared planting hole, water in well, mulch - it helped that it'd rained a lot and the ground was well soaked) but the greenhouse will still need tending. Last year my FIL was decorating for us while we were in Cornwall so it wasn't an issue.
My original thought was to get a timer unit, attach it to my 190litre water butt and use drippers or soaker hose. The issue with this would be whether there is enough pressure in the gravity feed to work effectivley with the timer. The bottom of the butt is about 30cm above the soil level.
My other option is for a non-timed version like this one and just drip feed a constant flow of water into sections of plastic pipe (or possibly bottomless plastic bottles) sunk into the ground. The aim of the pipe/bottles is to direct water down to the roots & not wet the surface of the soil. I expect 190 litres would be enough to keep it going for a week, though i've no idea of flow rates.
