  • Other uses for Blowaways!

    I've just bought one of these plastic "growhouses" for £6.99 (measurements 101 x 52 x 150cms)

    Possible alternative uses are:-
    1. Use the cover over my peach tree to protect it in winter
    2. lay it flat on its back to make a cold frame
    3. lay it on its side to make a slightly higher cold frame
    4. grow peas in it overwinter for an earlier crop
    5. put it inside the greenhouse for extra insulation in winter
    6. if desperate, put a grow bag in it and grow tomatoes............

    Any more suggestions?

After my cover went I've used the frame for a few things - staging with planks laid over the top, put it on its side and draped net curtain over it to grow carrots, same but with normal netting and grew brassicas under it. Well thats it really

I have something similar in the GH as per point 5. I think they are too flimsy to be outside.

I think they're too flimsy to stand up outside too, but laying flat or on their sides they may be useful. Having said that, I wonder whether three of them, attached together to make a triangle around a tree, might work
This is all part of my plan for growing undercover outdoors without an expensive polytunnel

Fibreglass tent poles (secondhand) 8mm to 9mm diameter and a net works out fine for insect protection, maybe they would work with a polythene sheet as well for a mini polytunnel or a kite?

If you have a £land local, I think you can pick up tent pegs 10 for a squid, they could be used to anchour it down. Unless you have anything lying around that could be bent into U shape pegs.
