  • Greenhouse vents automatic type

My wife seems to be pulling a few shifts a week in work that I'm stuck with no car and have 3 kids the greenhouse is being closed up some days at 3pm!!

I know I know its not ideal but the door has been left ajar to aid ventilation!

However mid summer this will be no good even now its getting warmer but the nights are still cold to counter this I need advice on an automatic window opening thing

Also will it need batteries or are they solar powered (told you I need help)

    Many thanks guys

They are powered by hydaulics. The rising heat makes the oil in the cistern expand and that makes the vent open

I have got 3 of them. 2 of them are ancient and came with second-hand greenhouses. The third I bought new, about £20. They are brilliant. just fit them and forget them in summer apart from a good application of petroleum jelly on the moving parts once a year.

you can buy them at garden centres, greenhouse suppliers, ebay etc. Very easy to fit.

I just bought some on line - they were about £20 each plus postage. They were delivered last Friday although I'm still building up the courage to fit them!!

Tried many makes over the years, now I have bayliss XL fitted to all vents - 20 in total - grease once a year, aluminium so no rust. Spares available but I have never needed any. eBay buy it now for around £20 new or secondhand auctioned for average of £10. Being an engineer I have no issues with fitting these, sometimes needed to make an adaptor flat plate or right angle plate out of scrap aluminium sheet but you could make these out of wooden blocks.

When i first fitted mine I'd get outside with my mug of tea at 7.30 to watch the sun touch the GH and like magic the vents opened.
