      Back at the beginning of time when I was a decorators apprentice & greenhouses were made of wood & the glass was held in by "sprigs" & putty,there were no such things as Z clips,we used short pieces of copper wire (from stripped off lighting cable).
      Bend two hooks with a 1/2" tails,put in place on lower pane (approx 1/3rd of pane width),position upper pane & bend wire upwards & trim to length,side fix upper pane jobs a good un
      Done that way you can accommodate any irregularities in overlap
