Base for a greenhouse

I have just been given an old greenhouse, it needs a few new glass panes but otherwise pretty much okay. My current greenhouse has a metal base which the frame is attached to. This raises the greenhouse by about 5 inches which is useful as it gives me a bit more headroom. My question is would you suggest I get on for my 'new' greenhouse. Is there an advantage over the extra height?

I think so, you can grow your toms taller!
My greenhouse is bolted to a row if blocks.

I agree, well worth the time, easier on the back than having to duck all the time as you get closer to the wall's, I often wonder if they're made for gnomes and fairies, they're all so low!

I'm saying nothing for fear of ridicule - but even I wish mine were taller (although I can't reach the ridge to clean the glass)

I built new doors for my poly to replace the zip up thingy and oh how I wish I had made them just an inch taller. You would think the permanent festering wound on my head would teach me to duck (Pavlovs dog and all that) but it would appear I am not as bright as that little mut.

Doh, I told you I wasn't as bright as that dog!

No I can't lower the floor as its on our patio slabs, I am banking on the fact that as we age we get shorter. So maybe next year I'll have a clear run.

My second had GH didn't come with a base so me and Mr Pots made one from breeze blocks topped with tanalised laths.

That's made me feel reet smug Bill. I was thinking of doing the same as you but being over 6' I realised it would cause problems so I just made a 3' gate at each end and cut the zipper part across 6" below the top of the gate so it just overlaps the gate..........works a treat...........

I went for double doors because that was the size of the zip opening and i like lots of ventilation in the summer, but that meant i was restricted height wise due to the sloping sides.




It's not really a problem, my head is gradualy being worn down to suit.


Another reason is that when i shed my mortal coils they can get my coffin in there for lying in state purposes.
