Best position for greenhouse

Hi all
We are in the process of rearranging our garden and am wondering what the best position for my greenhouse is (it's one of those green plastic ones) the corner I would like to put it in is a sunny spot but with no direct sunlight. It usually gets used for seedlings and tomatoes. Any advice greatly appreciated

The whole point of a greenhouse is to capture light, so the sunnier the better. Having said that many of us dont have that luxury, in particular me, shaded by high walls and trees. Despite that I had good crops of tomatoes and cucumbers in mine.A greenhouse also serves to protect plants from wind and pests, as well as retaining day time warmth. So while sun is a factor it's one of several.

How is it sunny if it doesn't get direct sun? *puzzled face* I'd call that partially shaded.


Anyway, ghs need to be sunny, so that's south or west facing preferably. The blowaways need to be in a sheltered spot (sheltered from the wind that is)

I would also suggest that you align it so the door is not facing the prevailing wind even if that means the long way round to get in

Close to a pub is best: gardeners require frequent watering.

If the purpose of your greenhouse is to bring on early crops and seedlings and protect plants during winter, then the only way is with a steep angled south facing elevation. You can always cool a greenhouse down but it costs lots of money to heat it! We have built a solar greenhouse which has so far kept temperatures 2.5 degrees above freezing despite minus 4 or 5 degrees outside. Look at plans for building your own greenhouse on the Internet and then start comparing prices of doing it yourself with buying a ready made greenhouse. There is no competition!

Thanks for your help. Successfully moved the greenhouse today although not sure it'll still be there in the morning. The wind has really gotten up, even more so than the other night when we were warned to batten down the hatches
