  • Price of a decent poly tunnel

    Hi everyone,
Have got a second plot with a battered shed on it that I think I will take down and reuse or let someone else have. So this will leave me with a large area for either a shed or poly tunnel.
Quite a few of you in other posts have said buy a decent priced poly tunnel as the cheaper ones don't seem to last.
Have been on quite a few sites and have found some very nice expensive ones and so rather cheap ones. So was wondering what is the average price people have paid and what company did they get their tunnels from.
    Thanks

I have a 6 year old First Tunnels polytunnel, 10'x20', cost £550ish when new. Seems like a lot of money but paid for itself in a couple of years. Very pleased with it, I am on very exposed site that is battered by the wind and it copes admirably, lesser tunnels have been replaced all around me, especially the cheap ebay ones - you may get away with one in a sheltered spot if its carefully erected.
    Buy once, buy quality IMHO

Politicians and nappies have one thing in common. They both need changing regularly - and for the same reason...

Here's the one we bought in spring 2011. We got the 10' x 10' starter one, which is the biggest our allotment allows. It gives us plenty for the 2 of us, we are still using peppers and chillies frozen in the summer, and have a dozen or so takeaway cartons of past sauce still to use.

Despite the fact these are really sturdy, just make sure you site it at an angle to the prevailing wind, i.e. so that the wind does not hit it at 90° either to the side or to the end where the doors are. Any gales tend to glance.

We've just invested in one frkm first tunnels. Cant be choosy about prevailing wind as it has to go in one place. Its 10 by 30 ft and wasn't cheap at 700 squid but we're looking on it as an investment and hopefully lasting a long long time. I know some can only afford fleabay bargains but if they don't last then they're false economy. Ive been saving for a long time for it including any birthday and christmas money recieved .
