Growing Tomatoes in heated greenhouse

Hi All

This year I am growing tomatoes, aubergines and chills in my heated greenhouse

Currently they are being grown under artificial lighting and I can probably (due to space reasons) have these for another 4 weeks inside, maybe a little longer at a push

When do you guys who have heated greenhouses get their plants in their greenhouse / tunnel? Is the end to mid March an acceptable time?

If you can keep your GH above 10C 24/7 then your good to go as soon as the days are long enough.

It depends on what you mean by heated - what is your minimal temperature in there?

I know its difficult to say, but when would you estimate days are long enough?

Going to keep it to a minimum of 10c I hope!

How are you going to heat it? It will probably cost a fortune....

with a 2.8kw electric heater, greenhouse will be partitioned so wont all be heated

I like to have at least 12 hours of good daylight before mine go out.

I have already got toms in mh gh. Not heated but bubblewrapped and fleeced..so far so good..

My small (8x6) greenhouse is electric heated with full bubble wrap insulation. Set to 15C.

In cold weather it costs £2.40 a day to run, in warm weather £0.50. When it's sunny like today, £0.20.

Cheaper and far better than paraffin.

My tomato seedlings like it as do my other plants..

When really cold, it cycles between 13C - heat comes on - and 15C heat goes off - every 3 minutes and the heater (3kW) runs approx 20 seconds..

Overnight lows are 12.5C. On hot days the vents open and 28C is the highest before they do..

Temperatures for max/min measure at 50cm above bench height.

Heater thermostat mounted on bench - approx 60cm above the ground.

As a newbie I am a little confused, this is the first year I have had a proper greenhouse. I think this thread has answered my questions but can I just clarify please? I have started off tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons and a few other bits inside my house. I have today pricked out many of them into bigger pots so now of course they take up much more room. Am I right in thinking I cannot put them in the greenhouse yet? I have a parafin heater but so far haven't used it - reading this thread I am not really sure when/if I should be using it now and starting things off in there or carry on doing what I am doing? Any advice gratefully received :-)

Slightly off topic but since having a heated propagator bench plus 1 large and 2 smaller propagators I was surprised how the ambient temperature increased to a level that I didn't need to consider additional heating or insulation. I do not plant this greenhouse up though.
