I've had mixed results. I have some striped morning glory that I had to soak overnight and they were sprouting the next morning! But I have a lot of plant pots that still look very empty I'm wondering about re having a go with some of them, better to have too many than none I suppose. I did drop an entire tray of tomatoes that I'd just potted up, so I quickly scooped them back into their pots, some have sprouted, others haven't - I'm wondering if there are even any seeds in some of the pots - but I'll keep waiting and hoping!

Is it me or are you also experiencing slow germination rates?

No your not the only one
Sowed some Nantes carrots other week in raised bed they are through
In my coldframe had mixed results with flowers and some beetroot in trays
On a sunny day I lift the large plastic boxes out and put a clear plastic cover over the top .
Some stuff has germinated others no sign
I sowed a hollyhock from seed last week and that's through in a small pot
With a plastic cup over it
In large containers I have sowed some clover and comfrey which is doing ok germination wise
I'm no expert , have no greenhouse so having mixed results
I think I put too fine a layer of compost on some seeds
Time will tell

My runner bean seeds are still thinking about it! (They're in boxes in the greenhouse.) But by the look of it starting to stir...Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.
Everything is worthy of kindness.

Perhaps I'm doing things wrong
I put the compost BnQ verve multipurpose in a pot
Water it and leave a couple hours for it to settle
Sow seeds then give a coat of compost as required
Perhaps someone could advise , should I water the top layer of compost too , when I first sow or it looks bone dry after been under the sun on a warm day
I use a garden sprayer with a fine mist , to keep the compost damp but not soaked .
Certainly I agree heat light and oxygen are the key to successful germination
My friend at work has grown some tomato seeds in small pots . Under the radiator in the kitchen
His seedlings look great so far
I have found poppy seeds hard to germinate .
The OH is trying some perennial blue poppies , which are not germinating after a month of so

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've noticed a couple of onion shoots popping throught the soil which i had sown from seed.
Others like my pomegranates and French climbing beans are a no show so far.
Even my Lupins and Delphiniums haven't shown any signs of life yet and i know they can be started fairly early in the year.
I'm none too worried though, i have sown some more seeds of the same variety i have in my greenhouse but this time, they ar indoors on a windowsill.

A week ago . Sowed some annuals that you get as freebies with the gardening magazines
Sowed into a normal plastic trough container
Just added some old fashioned muck n compost .
Been outside all last week . Had some sunshine and showers .
Looked tonight some have germinated
Doing better than some seed pots in a plastic box with a clear hard plastic sheet over !
I struggle to get some blue perennials poppy seeds to germinate , though I do appreciate they are slow to get going
One problem I have found is that the compost dries out quite quickly. Even when the sun is not out and the temp isn't that great
I keep it damp with a sprayer producing a mist over them
Next time I sow I'm going to soak the pots in water from the bottom up .
How deep do I soak the pot ?
