My staging is made from all sorts of junk.

This one is made from secondary glazing window frames, cut in half to make the long sides with legs, and more bits of frames ?pop-riveted across the top, at the correct spacing for large gravel trays to rest upon.
During winter, the trays are put in place and it becomes a seedling bench with overwintering salad leaves beneath. In spring, the trays come off and the tomatoes grow up through the staging, using it as a support.

Hello folks, I was wondering what peoples experiences ideas are for treating wooden staging? I managed to get some fab wood that was being chucked at work so will be going down the diy line (assuming I get the greenhouse built!). But it's going to need some extra effort to ensure it lasts a good while.

Had thought of just white glossing it to bounce the light around. I've never been fan of these new fangled wood treatments, they never last long in my experience, creosote was best but not very green or plants friendly. Decking treatment might be an alternative, or oiling?

      Thoughts? Cheers!

I haven't treated mine and I don't intend to. It is made from pallet wood and an old kitchen worktop. It will just be repaired as and when. Unless I get issues like habouring lots of pests then it will end up creocoted.

Mine aren't treated either. Most of my pots sit in large black trays so that I can water from the bottom. They rarely get wet. I can't see that light would bounce of them either to be honest because they are usually completely covered in plants.
