  • where to buy a cheap greenhouse

    watcha all,
does anyone know where i can get a cheap greenhouse off the internet. i want a rigid structure, glass or plastic sheet, about 8 by 6 feet, preferably traditional shape, as i have a tiny garden, and no space to dig in the sides of a polytunnel.

so any suggestions, and guide prices appreciated

Try ebay, sometimes they come on and if in your area, you can collect.

Another good place to look is the notice boards in your local Tesco's or other supermarket. I often see them cheap, as long as you're prepared to collect and normally dismantle it.

If you want to buy New, Greenhouses Direct are good or you could always enter the competition in this months GYO.

A friend of mine has an 8x6 he might be selling later this year Jeff. I'll see what I can find out & PM you.

Failing that you could always build your own. Plans are now here

Try your local Freecycle network. I have just picked up a 10 x 6 by putting a want advert on

              Hi Poutrychat,

if you go to this site and find your local group you can register and either post wants or post stuff you have to give away etc. I put a want for an 8 x 6 greenhouse or bigger and had a reply same day. I collected it this morning and its now on the plot awaiting erection.

I just bought a 6x4 aluminium greenhouse from Focus DIY for £99! Takes a structural engineer (or a willing husband and lots of bottles of bud and promises) to erect it, but erected it is and all i need now is lots of advice on what to plant in it, when and how??

You can start now, the time is right for planting under glass, if it's your first year, can I suggest climbing beans, courgettes for outside and try melons and tomatoes in your greenhouse? But all can be started in the greenhouse now. There's some useful info here:
                  http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/htbg/..._growing.shtml
Some fun background on their history:
                  http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-gre..._kw=greenhouse
And step by step info on growing tomatoes:

Wow - freecycle network is amazing! I just joined the two in Fife and am going to try and find myself a proper greenhouse as well as give away a load of stuff too. What a great idea - cheers for the link!
