I am also in the belief that a louvre is the correct option, as Potty says you want to create dilution by drawing cooler air in to push the warmer air out
BM, I think Alison may simply have misunderstood what I was trying to convey which for the avoidance of doubt is the hinge/slide used to fix the roof light/window. I think you understood

I was sober too but still don't really get what you mean, my window doesn't have a tube involved by my auto opener does

I understand it as being the profile on the ridge that the window slides along until it reaches the desired position.

I think I'm going to go with keeping the single window in the roof as it's already there. Get myself an auto opener / closer for that window. AND looking to get a louvre to replace one of the panes in the side wall. Thanks for all your suggestions Grapes, muchly appreciated.
Put the louvres on the opposite side to the roof opener & low down.

FWIW I disagree that a louvre is all that is required. 8' x 6' is difficult to keep cool and I think two roof vents, rather than one, will help. Personally I would also fit a louvre, as I mentioned above, to facilitate convective cooling.
However, that depends on being able to get a roof vent for the specific brand of greenhouse.
The roof vents on my greenhouse have a "hinge" formed by the roof vent's top edge being slid "into" the profile of the ridge member. There is no bolt-on hinge, such as you get on a [house] door hinge, and as such I think it would be almost impossible to retro-fit a roof vent, and also very unlikely that one brand will fit another
Hopefully this image illustrates how the hinge works, although I have no idea if this is common to all types of aluminium greenhouse? It is how mine fit onto the ridge member.
If its any use to you, I have a brand new roof window frame for the greenhouse below. It may not fit yours but if you are any good at modifying things, you may be able to make it fit. It is the frame only plus the window stay so will need a sheet of poly/glass which slides into channels, not held in with clips..........anyways if you want it, send me a pm...........postage will be £5.20.

Hi BM,
Sorry for the delay in replying, it's been a mammoth day with work today. Home now with a glass of something chilled and fizzy while meandering round the internet under the guise of research.
I've taken a look at the link you sent re the greenhouse, I know that I don't have that style of greenhouse but I am a dab hand at modifying things so yes please. I'll pm you with address and stuff.
Taking the diagram in the OP's first post, his layout is similar to mine, where he has a fence at B I will have my compost bins while at C I have a couple of water butts.
I'm fairly sure the A side on my lottie faces South. I get the sun (HA!) all day. The Gh is situated at the back of the plot.
So any louvres will be on the A side at the end farthest from the door.
Thank you to all the grapes who have given their time, thoughts, opinions and guidance :-)
Crikey the drawing is getting on in years its been a long time since imperial measurements were used.
I use them most days at work, we work with a lot of old structures which are all in whole feet and inches as is the associated pipework.
