Wi-Fi Max Min Thermometer?

The max-min thermometer in my greenhouse doesn't work properly and I need a new one.
My greenhouse is easily within range of my wireless router so I'd like a digital thermometer that I can check from my PC at any time and look at temperature profiles.

Anybody know of an idiot-proof one that doesn't involve home electronics construction skills? All the online stuff seems to be radio, or extremely complicated!

Personally i just use:
xcweather.com - weather Resources and Information. as we use it at work on a daily basis and have found it to be much more accurate than other weather sites.

Arexx do a base station and remote sensors, plus software you can run on your PC that will log the data (regularly & forever, so you can check back after a cold night, for example, to see how the temperature in the greenhouse held up and when it reached its low point, and for how long - helps with planning and understanding how much cold plants experienced).

Limit of about 50M (make sure you get the "long range" one for a remote building, more chance of the signal getting through a wall etc.)

Oh how lucky, I'd love to be able to do that, my greenhouse is half a mile away from the wifi. I'm reading the posts with interests tho, one day I might have a home greenhouse!

I've looked at the AREXX stuff, AREXX Engineering MULTILOGGER.
For my purposes I think I would need at least one sensor TL-3TSN, at about £18, plus a BS-1000 LAN receiver at about £120. The receiver can sit at the back of the house nearest the greenhouse plugged into a router. The sensor will talk to the receiver over radio, the receiver will talk to my PC in the office over the network and that PC will run the software. In time I could expand to other sensors if I wanted.

Now to try and make sense of the others...

The Oregon stuff looks pretty cool but I don't think it will do what I want. If I put the sensor in my greenhouse I'm doubtful that the signal will reach all the way to my desk (too many walls and stuff to go through). If it does, I can only link it to my phone / tablet, which is not ideal.

The Tempo and TFA Dostmann devices do things differently. In each case, the device would sit in my greenhouse and send temperature records to my phone whenever I came within range with bluetooth turned on. Nice, but again it means I'd have to get up from my chair and probably go outside to get the readings.

I had a quick look at the earlier threads, but I got lost quite quickly when the tech boys started talking about building their own.

I haven't seen anything else other than the AREXX that will do what I want (except for professional, silly-price-range gear). And the AREXX does seem quite a luxury item when I could just get a stand-alone max-min digital thermometer for less than a fiver off Amazon and get up off my arris to look at it whenever I was curious.

Oh well, maybe one day.

If you the PC is within range, i.e. you can connect base station to PC with USB cable, then that base station is cheaper. Rapid Electronics sell the USB Base station and two (basic, not long distance) temperature sensors for £64.48

I don't think I can get the base station near enough without losing the radio signal to the sensors. I suppose I could put an old PC in the back bedroom, connect the base station to that via USB, then drive that PC remotely over our LAN... bit of a kludge though.

I have used the Oregon scientific with 3 sensors for a few years and would not recommend them.i have one sensor outside,one in the green house and one in a heated propagator- so I can check all is well from the comfort of the house!i have had issues with sensors dropping out,getting water in (design has been improved) and my new replacements just didn't work.To be fair they have been refunded without a quibble.
I was going to post a similar thread so I will check out the other ones that have been suggested.I hate not knowing what the outside temperature is and would love to link it to a PC!!
