I keep a check on the minimum temp for a few weeks, to see how cold it's getting.

In the last 10 days there have been 2 nights down to 3C - which would be certain death to stuff like aubs and chillis etc

You could get some salad leaves, radish, onion sets, spring onions etc in there now, would give them a nice early start and they would be out the way when you need it for tom's etc.

I put a few pots of chilli pepper and sweet pepper seedlings in the polytunnel last week and all are looking good, so will be moving the majority of my seedlings in there over the weekend. I'll probably start off a few more seeds just in case. Cheers

Far too cold round here to put the tender stuff out, even if it didn't die it would stall badly. I do have salad stuffs, peas, sprouts etc growing in there though. Toms etc will be inside for another month yet but mine are still very small anyway as I sow at a time when they're not going to be too big too early as I don't want triffids inside (again )

I left some stuff out and it touch 4C and the cucumbers did not like it.

So it is back to bringing stuff in at night.

It is too early for tender stuff in the Greenhouse unless you have some heating. There is a Lune Rousse(red moon) until the 18th May and until then the days may be warm but the nights will be cold. There are also the days of the Ice Saints, 11,12&13 May, when it can be very cold. This is not a load of Mumbo jumbo. On the 11,12,13 May the earth passes through a cosmic dust cloud which stops the Suns rays warming the earth. Exactly 6 months later it passes through the same dust cloud and the effect is the reverse. The heat is held in the atmosphere and there are a few days of raised temperatures known as the Summer of St. Martin.

Moral of this story is dont plant out a thing tender until after 13 May.

My toms went in last week. I think the wall helps keep any cold away.

My greenhouse thermostat recorded only 1.8C last night OMG - so good luck to anyone who has put their toms/peppers/aubs out in their greenhouse.

Mine are staying safely inside 'til weather is better!

Being an Italian myself ( I was bred in warm country) I put my stuff outside the green house when for me is not cold enough to wear a hat. So I still wear a hat at night so still cold for Mediterranean plant lol.

Since writing my last post, the wind changed and I decided too cold just yet to risk it. This week is looking promising though

This coming week IS looking nice and warm and I'm very tempted to move my tomatoes to the greenhouse but after your advice I think I'll leave it until later in the week. I've got a few other jobs to be getting on with so will probably be up on site most days from now until Saturdayu so I'll make a note of the temperatures on my max/min thermometer....I've got one in the greenhouse AND the polytunnel

My tomatoes are shooting up....should I pot them up into a bigger pot yet? Or will they be ok in these for another couple of weeks until I move them into the plot? They're not pot bound and there's no roots coming through the bottom. They just seem to be getting very tall and on to their second set of proper leaves.

Those pots look about the right size for the plants, only pot them on when they fill the pots they are in which looks like it'll be a while off yet. Plus point is that they're still small enough that they can be kept inside for a few more weeks
