Louvre- cheaper option?

Hi Guys

I was looking to add a louvre to my greenhouse to get more circulation but they are really expensive

I was thinking of just buy a piece of acrylic cut to size and then cutting strips out of it to allow airflow in, would that work?

The idea with louvres is that you can close them/ half close them.
I imagine your idea would work if you had another sheet of something to put behind it yo block it off when you need to ( eg at night)

There'd probably be more turbulence with the airflow coming in...but I'm not sure if/ how that would affect the plants.

And nope, I don't have much experience of greenhouses- those are just my initial thoughts.....

The problem with acrylic is cutting it (unless you have a laser or access to a laser for example at a school, if you are not careful it will crack, even if you cut it ok, it can crack afterwards with sun, heat,cold , adhesives, or cleaning chemicals , when cut by hand or power tool you need to use a tiny drill or hot nail to round any corners, and sand off any uneven edges, slightest nick in the edge and it can/will stress crack, you can use a flame to smooth things off but it takes a few goes to get it right.

Unless the price difference is massive, It is probably easier to get a vent unless you have used acrylic a lot in the past , like a lot of plastics its not that good to work with

If you put your ventilation on the north side of GH it doesn't need to let light in, so you can use anything as long as it supports the glass above, ie sheet metal, plastic, or thin plywood.If your on an allotment it's amazing what you can find / scrounge! then all you do is drill holes or cut slots. At this time of year you probably won't need to close it off, but later on you could use another sheet to blank it off or put the original glass back in.The advantage of a proper louvre is that some time in the future you can fit an automatic opener but that's more expense! what ever you decide do something cos it's getting hot even up in the north east
