Any hints and tips for building a greenhouse from recycled pieces?

I'm going to be attempting to build a greenhouse from panes of glass, a few old wooden windows, a couple of polycarbonate sheets, and pallets. It will probably be about three foot deep, four or five feet wide, and slope from 7-8 feet. Obviously, it's not going to be a huge thing, and there will just about be room in there for me to stand with the door shut and plenty of shelving.

I'm planning on making frames of sorts for the panes of glass, either by using a router to put a groove in the edges of the pallet wood and puttying it in, or using more than one piece of wood to hold the glass in place.

It's a long term project for over the winter. The pallets have been drying out, and I'm going to use the best pieces from them and wait until I have more if needs be. I'll sand it down and treat it as well.

Would appreciate advice from anyone who's done a similar thing. I want to make sure my panes are properly fitted, and the structure won't collapse in the wind or something equally stupid.

Have mosey around some Double Glazing companies, they usually have skip loads of old windows.

I built this from all recycled materials I started by marking out the size then sunk 4x4" posts in and then just built it round them.

This is what we built a few years ago,out of other peeps throw outs,pallet wood{there are some about with nice size timber runners on},double glazed glass,and the old plastic off conservatory roofs,once you have some ideas to munch over,you will be away,especially with a router,the last pic is the ground,a frame was made for each side,rather like a giant heavy ladder,just so the uprights could be permenantly attached to the top and bottom runners,

I built my 8`x 6` greenhouse from roofing battons and polycarbonate sheets, all materials came from my work place, waste skips.
Total cost? nowt. just the time in building it.

Looks great. Is it on concrete, or did you do something else for a base? I'm on a slope so not quite sure about the base since I won't be doing concrete.

That's good going. I've got some polycarbonate sheets coming today, hopefully, from my dad's workplace. 9x3. Just got to figure out how I'm going to cut them, then all I'll need is something for the roof I think.

Polycarb is easy to cut with scissors or stanley knife.

I managed to scrounge some old patio doors and two chaps at the allotment site put this 'glass shed' together for me. My late husband was very ill in hospital at the time and they felt sorry for me and wanted to do something to help - so kind. Anyway, this whole thing cost me £80 for the timber and £25.00 approx for the roofing material.

It is great. It is warm enough for tomatoes and cucumbers but it does not get so hot in there that I have to worry about ventilation and opening windows. Just as well really as there aren't any!
