  • Sulphur candles etc.

I am wondering if anyone has made their own sulphur candles for greenhouse fumigation.
Is it just a candle with sulphur mixed in the wax? Would a metal pot with sulphur in, over a burner do the same thing? Does it kill any living plants in the greenhouse? or do them good?
The commercial ones are quite expensive, whereas sulphur itself is cheap. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know about making them but have bought them for the greenhouse (the tunnel is too leaky I suspect) and found them very effective. You definitely need to get all plants out as they'll definitely kill them. To be honest, although not exactly cheap as you only need to buy one at a maximum of once a year I'm not at all sure it's worth experimenting with home made.

I've been looking on t'internet, and couldn't see any for sale - other than at extortionate prices.
Deadfast have stopped making them, it seems

Do we really need to do this? A good scrub out is sufficient. I clean the plastic on the tunnel twice a year and have insect houses in there. I don't seem to have a huge problem with pests and the beneficial insects thrive. If I used s sulphur candle it would kill them all.

There are horrible little things called thrips that can ruin onions and leeks and if you have them, sulphur candles are a good part of the arsenal needed to get rid. Washing doesn't cut the mustard

Have been unable to get the sulphur candles anywhere this year. My greenhouse is an aluminum one which means it has slots for bugs to over winter in. The candles sulphur gets into every where which is why I like them.
Has anyone got any ideas were I can get sulphur pellets.
                          Thanks.

They have them on Amazon too at £9.99 each. Much dearer than Battles.
