Narrow greenhouse recommendation

Hi All

Might bite the bullet and buy a greenhouse (is a cold frame not enough, as I have one already) - but this would need to be small and a maximum depth of 2 feet really to fit in the space I have. It can be 6 feet wide there's no issue there, just cant "protude" more than 2 feet so people can walk past it.

Lean to's seem the obvious choice but it won't be against a wall just a low fence so it needs a back to it and most I see don't have one because they are going against a wall. Are there any you know of that do have a back to it?

It'll be on the wooden decking so no issue in stability etc.

Is a plastic one going to be OK or should I go glass/polycarbonate? Prefer polycarb as I have a 1 year old daughter who I don't want to end up smashing it and injuring herself!

Any advice and links to recommendations much appreciated Budget realistically is £250-300 at a push.

If getting a polycarbonate greenhouse is it going to be any better than the polycarbonate (smaller) wooden cold frame I currently have?

What do you want to grow in a GH, Dave?
Cordon (vine) tomatoes need plenty of height - 5-6' say. You probably won't get that in your coldframe - but you might get bush tomatoes in!
Height matters!

How's you handyman skills Dave? Could you not get some timber & knock one up to your own spec. Fasten polycarb to the timber with battens.

I use similar cold frames,the blow away type. My tomatoes go in there when they've been potted on from their trays,I put them inside in the morning & then bring them in at about 4pm when it starts getting cold. They harden up out there by doing this,then I plant them outside in the open air,in the soil & in containers everywhere but not in a greenhouse. You don't need a greenhouse,lots of tomato varieties grow well outside. At the moment I've got some brussels sprouts plants in there that I sowed in October,they've already been potted on & they're ready for planting out. A lot can be achieved with these mini types of greenhouse cold frames.

See below current setup, small cold frame can be replaced with 6x2 ideally polycarbonate greenhouse. I want tomatoes and strawberrys mostly , is it worth replacing this with a polycarbonate or blowaway greenhouse?

See fence it'll be against as to why I can't use a lean to without back panel :-)

Strawberries don't need to be in a GH so you just need room for tomatoes.

Only alternative is against the back wall for a lean to without a back but doesn't get full sun because it'll be shaded by a big fence...

That looks great, will it not get frustrating not being able to reach into the sides properly?

Also, will ventilation not be an issue as I will have to just open the door wont I? Assume I can't use an autovent thing on that. How do people cope when they go on holiday?

You can't have everything, Dave!! If you don't have room for anything bigger, you have to compromise.
A GH is never big enough, I have 5 now and still want more
