DIY propogator air cable

Many years ago I built my own propogator.
It was custom designed to fit on a 4 foot greenhouse bench.
It could be disassembled and stored in the shed when not required.
Most designs used a cable buired in sand. Mine used an air cable mounted on a frame, it looped back and forth. It is very light and was specifically used to allow disassembly.
It's been going strong for must be 30 years.
Question..
Can you still buy air cables ?

I will try but it's chocka block full of tomatoes plants. So you might not see the air cable.
It came ready fitted with a thermostat. So I might see if there is a name on it and try and contact them.

Can I presume you mean a cable that heats the air as against a soil warming cable?

If so try google trace heating cables we use them to wrap round pipes to prevent freezing.

What's the advantage of heating the air rather than a mat or soil? I'd have thought air heating was less efficient than heating through soil, which would retain warmth.

That confused me also!

Looking at the pictures it would seem a normal soil warming cable submitted on a frame! Rather than embedded I sand or soil!

It may be a normal cable but as I recall the supplier said you could use it in air.
The main advantage is it's extremly light on its frame, easy to clean and dismantle for storage.
It will be approx 30 years ago and I suspect the supplier is no more.

Nearest you will get these days is trace heating cables, comes in various lengths and usually runs at 12 watts per metre.
