  • Unbelievable!!!

Ok I apologise for not putting this on the "undercover" section
However I wanted more people to see this than may look under that heading.
Hmmm think I've messed up on trying to upload photos. Sorry
Anyway my point is. On Pinterest if you have it ,appears a great idea..all be it American..for a pop up laundry basket utilised as a cover for small area crops you want to protect. Fab idea but this item is from the Dollar Store. As you you know it's our pound shop equivalent. So about 70p.
Aha I thought great idea must see if anyone I know is off to USA to get me some.
WELL....no need for that as I then by chance come across a company called PRIMROSE that sells what appears to be the very same item. However PRIMROSE charge £34.99 + £4.99 P&P. Almost £40 folks. Though they do provide a wee zippy bag for it to be fair. so if you want this fab bargain here's what to do to view it.
Pinterest ...Put into search ...DOLLAR STORE POP UP LAUNDRY HAMPER.
    Then compare it with.
PRIMROSE. MEDIUM POP UP FRUIT CAGE. ....OHH and the mini one is just £16.99. YEA,
I'm not badmouthing this company. I'm sure they do some OK stuff but I feel they and others take us gardeners for utter mugs at times.
I emailed the company with my query re this item. They sent a standard " we received your question and will be in touch." I've heard nothing since. Funny that....

I moved it because you'd posted it on Archived Growing techniques where all new posts are disabled - and nobody except Mods would have seen it !

You can get them cheap on fleabay Laundry Basket Popup Foldable Mesh Washing BAG BIN Hamper TOY Tidy Storage LMSH | eBay
I know where you are coming from in regards to high prices but (I know it may not seem it) but uk goods are of a higher standard than a lot of countrys. Food products for instance in the UK (I forget the exact amounts as I learnt this years ago) you are only allowed one or two instect parts per whatever and American is a lot higher than that. When I was younger I loved furniture made by a company sold in Spain and France when I asked why it wasn't sold in the UK it was because it didn't meet fire standards in the UK. I know sometimes it is just a rip off but I am glad we have bodies in place in this country looking out for us whilst we moan about the expence

Similar but not the same it does not have a skirt around the top which will be the bottom when used upside down but that is easily fixed by burying it a little in the ground as you are holding to need someway of holding it down and not letting it blow away. At 34 to 1 forgetting the P&P I know which one I would go for.

If you click on the Pippa Greenwood site, this is listed as a pop up net for £28.95.

Pop up Fruit or Veg Cage (GPN100-04) - Product of Pippa Greenwood

I also can't find it elsewhere by doing a search for DOLLAR STORE POP UP LAUNDRY HAMPER.

I dont think this was ever a dollar store buy, I think whoever posted the comment on pinterest either got mixed up, or was thinking they could do the same with a similar cheaper alternative. It then was reposted on other people's pages. Laundry net hampers are never this size they are always much smaller.

I don't think this particular item was ever a dollar.

(Always happy to be wrong though. )

Bobbin, you don't seem to have taken size into consideration! You're not comparing like for like.
the Pippa one is 1m x1m and 1.35m high.
The cheapo ones are 36m x 36m x 56cm. You'd need 9 of them to cover the same area and it would be less than half the height.

I have a cheapo one and have thought about using it for crop cover. However, when upside down, the base is solid, not mesh, & the rounded corners make it difficult to rest on the soil - it would have to be dug in and pegged down. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, just that there's more involved than the cost.
Buy one, try it and let us know how you get on.
