  • Greenhouse temperature?

So I was brought a plastic walk in greenhouse a few weeks back and have started growing my own fruit and vegetables and all is going well so far. Just curious to ideal temperature inside as from mu understanding too hot isn't great for the plants? This is my first time attempting to grow anything so am a little lost. I went in and opened it up today around 11am and it was at 45°C . Is there an ideal temperature? Any info much appreciated.

The vents on my greenhouse are set to open around 20 degrees, I wouldn't want it much more than 30 in there.

Too hot will cook many of the plants, and 45c is too hot. But the air temperature - which is what matters - is probably quite a bit lower. You should try and shade your thermometer to get an accurate reading.

I've managed to fix some white cardboard above and south of mine so that it's in shadow during the heat of the day. But before 11am the thermometer is in full sun, which is why I always get the highest readings at that time of day. The air temperature is actually warmest in there in the middle of the day. So although this graph shows a peak in the low 40s early in the day, the real peak is in the high 20s later on:

I really must do better a better job of shading the thermometer!

Shade the thermometer as Martin says & shade the greenhouse.

Martin H... I like that little temp chart. Do you have some kind of temp gauge linked up to a computer to record data?

Nice isn't it! Unfortunately it's rather expensive, I wouldn't have bought it for myself but it was a nice present to get.

It's a wi-fi sensor made by Lascar, it talks to our wi-fi router so I can see what's going on without leaving my desk. Here's details of the Lascar range: EL-WiFi Data Logger

Wireless Max Min Thermometer Hygrometer Indoor Outdoor Garden Greenhouse12/425/3 on ebay £27.50

The ones I have are called Indoor Outdoor Digital LCD Wireless Thermometer Temperature Sensor Gauge 433MHz on ebay and sell between £9.50 - £12.50

No charts but allows remote monitoring of a greenhouse, I now have two and use them in different parts of the greenhouse and sometimes move the sensor to the cold frame to keep an eye on things.

I have some of these Eco-friend Hat Mini Clip Solar Sun Energy Power Panel Cell Cooling Fan Cooler A | eBay in my greenhouse . They're not very powerful, but ensure that the air keeps moving, which helps.
