Can anyone help with some Greenhouse Connectors?

Hi everybody, I'm really hoping someone can help me. I'm building a new plastic greenhouse as I gave my old one away. I've got the cover sorted, as well as the pvc pipes but I'm having an awful trouble trying to track down some simple plastic connectors.

It's quite hard to describe the pieces but I think anyone whose owned a plastic greenhouse will know what I mean when I say "standard greenhouse connectors".

There are a few websites that have some of the connectors that aren't too expensive but unfortunately they don't have all the pieces I'll need.

Does anybody have any spares or ones they no longer need? I can cover the cost of postage if necessary and have a good selection of chilli and aubergine seeds to sweeten the deal if anyone can help.

Hello Mamsoth & welcome to the Jungle, before going any further I think we need to establish the diameter of the tubes, they are normally 15mm but the cheaper polytunnels come in 19 mm. I've never seen one with plastic tubes as you mention, they are normally plastic coated metal.

BM has read my mind. Where have you sourced your pipe?

(If it is plumbing pipe only the internal diameter is standard not the external so fittings would be brand specific and you would not have the range of fittings to do what you want. Plumbing came to mind as you said pvc pipe)

Hi Bigmally, thanks for the welcome Yes of course, the diameter of the pvc poles is 22mm, however, I could widen/narrow the ends by a few mm with some duct tape if necessary

Hi Norfolkgrey. Yes they are plumbing pipes (from Wickes). I didn't realise it was the internal distance that was measured. As long as the fittings are within a few mm do you think I would be ok to stick some blue tack or duct tape on the end of my poles to make them fit?

I'm sure Potty will put us right as he is the plumbing guru but I don't think you can buy 22mm fittings for your needs in plastic. You may pick up the odd pushfit but I doubt you will find what you need for your needs. Maybe try & get a smaller diam plastic pipe that you can fit inside & bend to shape. Then again you will only be able to do 90 degree 2 way bends. Have you got any pics of the parts you already have.

Only because it was by far the cheapest. I haven't actually ordered it yet but would have done this afternoon before reading your post, thanks for letting me know. I need about 26-30 metres of the stuff so really trying to keep the costs down wherever I can.

As far as the pieces I already have, that would be a big fat negatory. Still in the planning phase but think I need to get a bit more organised

You won't be able to get fittings to do what you want as BM said. If you are adamant it is the route you want to go down then you can offset joins but it will be a pig IMHO (more work, more expense, poor finish). I'm confused ( as usual!). What are you trying to build? Is it a greenhouse like the one in the photo or a hoop house like a polytunnel?
If its the GH - do you have the cover and your trying to make a frame to fit it?

Personally, if it's that type of greenhouse you are looking for, I'd save all the hassle & get one of these for 30 squid:

Yes you may be right Norfolk. Really had no idea that plastic piping and fittings were so ludicrously expensive.

If you are wanting to go down the DIY route, you could buy 60m of this for under £30, get some couplings to join 2 pieces together making the lengths into 6m, then make a hooped walk in greenhouse.

Hi VeggieChicken, yes it will end up being similar to the one in the photo. I haven't ordered the covering material yet but have found the stuff i may need, yeah still trying to get the frame sorted atm

Bigmally, I would be inclined to agree, but I'm trying to build it over my raised beds which are 6ft by 6ft, I think the cheapest blowaways at that price are still about £70

Thanks for the link BigM, that's a great price for that amount and was more in line with the price I had initially had in mind for the project.

OK, so you don't actually have a cover - but you know where you can get summat!
What do you intend to grow in the raised beds you want to cover? Does it need to be walk-in?
