    I grow lettuces.

The simplest solution I've found is to buy a pack of "living salad" from the supermarket & split it up into about 9 blocks. They grow bigger and you can harvest them through the winter.

      Progress

I have planted broad beans, red onion sets and garlic (veg wise). I’ve also done some flower bulbs in posts that are just sitting under the staging for now hoping for spring flowers for inside the house.
My worry is how big the beans are alreadyClick image for larger version

Similarly the onions are doing quite well. Can I keep them inside or do they need to go outside already. Would they tolerate a Lincolnshire (uk) winter?

Thanks again to everyone for the advice.

I've already planted out my Broad bean seedlings and the onion sets were planted outdoors.
Sorry but I don't know how your weather compares to mine but if your beans are winter hardy they should be OK.

I did the same last year and got a fantastic crop. However, my daughter (who lives in Vancouver Canada) sowed some at the same time and they were taken out by the frost.

I've got lettuce in my greenhouse.

My garden is in DG8 - Last Frost 2nd Week May. 2 years ago, I planted onions and Garlic outside at this time year ... They were ok. Last Year Tried again, Onions, Garlic and sowed Aquaduice Broadbean. Complete failure.

Think the last frost date for Lincoln is the Last Week April. That gives you 3 weeks ish on me, so you may have lucky on your side regarding the weather.

I'm going back to The Sutton and CRIMSON FLOWERED for 2018, with Onion Sets in spring.

this year I tried planting spring cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli in my tunnel, to get an early start to next year, they are/were coming along quite nicely so I got lazy, and didn't check as often as I should, now the beds are covered in green velvet, a solid sheet of green about 6mm .25 inches. obviously some kind of mould or moss, maybe I closed the side vents too early.

tried scraping it off, just regrows.

all my reading says the stuff isn't harmful so I plan to just leave it until it warms up and I can ventilate safely and properly
