Damaged greenhouse

Like a lot of people (probably), my palram greenline greenhouse that I got in b&q for the princely sum of £5 has been trashed in the recent winds. Ive completely lost one roof panel which is nowhere to be seen, and consequently the back wall panels are starting to blow in.

Any idea what I can replace the plastic panel with? It was the crystal clear polycarb, very thin stuff that bends and flexes. Ive also lost the edging strips that feed into the channels and holds the panels in. Would normal, thin polycarb sheeting work, if it was glued down/in with silicone sealant? I dont want to send the OH out to fix it if it wont actually work!

Try some 4mm twin wall polycarb. I'm sure that's what I used in one of those B&Q cheapos with missing glazing.

Whatever you choose you should probably look at reinforcing with wooden battens or similar. Mine has come out of the frame in the last month but is still sort of in one piece. End of Feb. I'll hopefully be able to pop the plastic back in. At least haven't lost plastic panels yet...

Replacement poly-carb panels are available on Ebay I think. Some sort of reinforcement as previously suggested sounds right. If you can get some scrap aluminum strips that would be best. A cordless drill, some screws and a bit of ingenuity are probably the main requirements - and remember usually positioning struts at an angle to the main supports gives you most rigidity for least effort.

Thank you. Would the polycarb just slide in and clip down with W clips? I dont know if im making too much of not having the edging bits. I can get them from palram, but they are £1 each but £7 postage!

I "think" the polycarb had to be bent/bowed a bit to fit in the grooves then released and was quite a tight fit. I didn't do it myself (as I can't reach the roof).
If you have a piece of polycarb, try it and see.

If its blown out once, I'd be inclined to drill through the edges then screw it in place - I'm a "strong rather than pretty" DIY'er, when it comes to gardening stuff.

Hi, anytime i need sheet plastic there are several good plastic suppliers in the UK that will cut sheets to what ever size you need. I got some panels cut from www.theplasticshop.co.uk they were the best quote at the time and their postage wasn't mad pricing.

When I got my second hand Palram greenhouse I contacted them for spare parts, they weren't overly expensive they sent me the manual in pdf format so that I could identify the part numbers I wanted. As a result when B&Q were selling them off I bought another.

I have one panel that is drilled and screwed all the other are fixed in with new fixing strips I purchased.

I have 2 greenhouses, both use 4mm twin wall polycarbonate panels. One in the garden uses ‘W’ clips. The other, at the allotment, has the full length plastic edge capping. After storm Eleanor there were a few panels missing from the allotment greenhouse, luckily I found them all, I screwed some Aluminium angle bar to the bottom rail. This has reduced the bow in the panels and better secured the bottom rail to the base stiffening the whole greenhouse. No lost panels dude storm Fionn.

I lost all my polycarbonate panels from roof and 2 side walls - 3 years ago in Glasgow. Found all but one. They were several gardens away. Some 3, 4 doors up the street in Front Garden.

I went for the Silicon Treatment and held them in place with the W clips (to allow it to cure)

when I moved the house last year, had to move it in sections on roof rack. I could not remove all panels. Some polycarbonate would try to rip rather than release from frame.

Used A4 length plastic project binders to strengthen the top and bottom edges.

They are sealed back in again with clear silicon. More wind since I've moved down here than Glasgow.
