Completely agree about Hurst Greenshaft being an excellent variety, but the rule of thumb with any pea variety is if you want them sweet, pick them small. The sugar in peas turns to starch as they mature, so once they reach full size they are already starting to be less sweet. In my experience any sign of wrinkling on the pod means that the peas inside will be inedibly (to my taste) starchy, so they want picking well before that happens.

I grow Hurst Greenshaft. I have saved some seed this year, so I'll be trying some saved seed.

Thanks for the tip about pea moth - JOOI, how good does the netting need to be? (also what size)
