  • Tattie taste test

First time I've grown Charlottes and have to say a very tasty spud, some plants didn't crop as well as others, but nice sized and blemish free, nearly all gone so on to the Roosters next.

    My absolute favourite Burnie.
Try hanging on to a few next time and have a go at chipping them. Yum.

I can have chips done in an acti-fry machine, due to the on going Gall Bladder problems, not the same a crunchy deep fried ones, so chips are sort of off the menu just now. They make a nice wedge done in the oven(with or without spices). Pink Fir Apples make a mean chip too, I might grow some more next year, probably in a raised bed as an experiment.

My wife does great things with second earlies....par boiled, then thrown in the oven with olive oil, shallots, garlic and rosemary...and finished with course ground salt..... hungry now I have typed that

The only chips I make are oven chips. Most varieties get the same, chipped and thrown on a baking tray from raw, 180c (fan oven) for 30 mins. Charlottes make a good chip like this.
All time fave for chips is Kesterel.

I'm a Charlotte fan as well and grow them as a second early (Red DoY as first earlies). I'm also growing Nadine, Rooster and Cara this year.

All spuds are nice, particularly if plastered in tomato sauce !
But Charlottes seem popular with the wife.
Who shuns any additions such as mint, rosemary etc.
