Another visit to plot. really shouldn't have been on the soil as it was far too wet. Put some tatties in though that were beginning to go soft.
Had just finished preparing an area for to sow a row of parsnips when I got a message that I was receiving a load of logs very imminently at home so had to dash.
I was trying to kill two birds with one stone as well by digging worms for a fishing excursion later in the week. Its funny how when I dug this area in the autumn it was full of worms but today there were very few. Probably drowned.

Raked area I had dug a couple of days ago and sowed a row of parsnips. Dug a strip of virgin land and transplanted some raspberry plants that were dotted around the plot into a single row. I have no idea whether the rasps are any good or not but I will give them a season and find out. The virgin soil gave me a load of fishing worms anyway
Laid cardboard between raised beds as a weed control.
Hoed and fed spring cabbage and lifted netting a bit higher to allow it to grow.

Another couple of hours spent at the plot this morning. Spread wood ash from my wood burner over the area I will be growing brassicas this year. Emptied a load of kitchen waste onto my compost heap. Did a bit of hand weeding, mainly of groundsel growing under a glass frame.Added this as green waste to the compost heap.
I brought a bag of grass cuttings from my home lawn and spread thee along my Japanese onion rows as a mulch.
Sowed Brunswick cabbage, All Year Round Cauli's, Purple sprouting broccoli and Brussel Sprouts in short rows in a cold frame. Also sowed a row of Snowball turnips.
Put a new strap hinge on my plot's gate.Watered anything that seemed to be suffering from lack of.
Took my three Connovers Colossal Aspagaus roots out of the water they had been soaking in and will plant them in a clump in my home garden. Also took the Oca and some tall lillies which I will also grow at home.
Left with four bags of log offcuts that my neighbour had left in my greenhouse for my log burner.

Sneaked out of the house this morning at 9.00am for the allotment knowing I had my Son and grandchild visiting home at noon, so only had a couple of hours.

Sowed leeks, red onions and three types of tomato seed in pots in greenhouse. Mixed sand and compost in tray and set cuttings of chrysanthemum cuttings in tray, covered by a clear plastic cover.

Raked down some soil I had dug over in the Autumn to a decent tilth. Hoed about half the plot where the brassicas are going. I don't want to dig this again as brassicas don't like loose soil.

Managed to get home about 11.30!

Free postage weekend at Marshalls so I ordered one packet of Broad Bean Sciabola Verde. They appear to be a good cropper for the allotment and will take the place of my failed Autumn sown beans.

Planted out two rows of Charlotte potatoes. Planted out a dozen leeks I had grown from leek grass. No idea what they will perform like, but I don't really care as I am only trying to keep a dying strain alive (Long story) Got chatting with an allotment neighbour who was hard going as he was corned beef.
Planted a white floribunda climbing rose in my home garden.

Got a phone call from the Treasurer on my old site to say someone had been seen on my chicken run roof of my old plot at 7.00am this morning.
After I had done my chores at home i.e stacking wood for burner I decided to drive the 25 mile or so to collect some stuff and see what had happened.
My chicken run roof was collapsed in and I can only imagine someone was using it as hoist up over the external fence, probably doing off with someone's rotovator or such like

Anyway, while I was there I collected all my canes. I especially wanted the long ones for my bean pyramids . I also took my compost dalek (had a job getting it into my Corsa:
I took my potted blueberry and pots and trays I needed.
These were all unloaded at my new plot Its starting to take shape now and the stuff I have planted is growing well, particularly pleased with my Spring Cabbage and Garlic.

Yes, best to take what you want now, before someone else decides that it would be better off with them!

My son has just bought a new flatpack settee for his house. Without realising how many cardboard boxes it was delivered in I told hm I would utilise the cardboard at the allotment. Baaaaad move. Today I unloaded the mountain of cardboard from my car along with 5 gallon of water in a container (no water on site) and a bucket full of woodash.
After laying out the cardboard mulch I spread the woodash over the brassica area.
I sowed a packet of broad beans into modules in the greenhouse to replace the failed Autumn sown ones. I had various seeds sown in pots in the greenhouse and was going to bring the leeks and onions home as I thought it was too cold for them to germinate. How wrong can you be. On further inspection could just see the white shoots starting to form, so I left them where they were.
I have taken all the chrysanth cuttings I need so I placed the old stools out in a sheltered area to harden off with a view to just utilising the stool growth for cut flowers. I watered everything that needed it, including the chrysanth cuttings which have a clear plastic cover over them to keep up the humidity so they won't dry out.
Before I went, and because I still had a bit of energy left I did a bit of digging and collected enough worms for my next fishing trip.
I might post a few piccies later once I have downloaded them.

Rightly or wrongly I potted on my six Tigerella tomato plants from the windowsill into the greenhouse at the allotment. I built a makeshift frame around them and covered them with some opaque laminate underlay I had lying at the plot. I've used this stuff in the past to cover chitted spuds and they have been ok. Here's hoping they don't get too much of a shock.
While I was there I had a bit of a tidy up in the greenhouse and shifted pots and trays into the hut The leeks and onions I sowed without any heat have germinated in there pots so that's something to look forward to, potting them on.
My next door neighbour has a brand new shed so I suppose I will have to fix mine up a bit It needs the .roof re-felting (think I have enough) a new floor, which I will just patch up and a coat of paint. I have some brown and some green wood paint which I will use when it gets a bit warmer. I may even get arty farty and make it two tone.

What a cracking idea! Better than the green and brown stripes I had in mind!

I shall unleash my artistic talent on it.
