I have been looking online for Garlic Bulbs and it has got me wondering. On some sites it says 'grown on the Isle of Wight'. Now I have been looking at getting my Garlic from the Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight but are other sites grown there too? I am now looking at possibly getting Kings, are these grown on the same sites as The Garlic Farm's?

Not sure but Garlic Farming in the UK started on the Isle Of Wight after the French Resistance risked life and limb to get a bag of garlic heads onto a British plane running a secret mission to save Charles De Gaul from the tedium of Bangers and Mash. The bulbs were cultivated on the Isle of Wight and that's just the start of the story.

The garlic farm cloves are usually fabulous quality - and you get a good selection. They are a little on the expensive side but worth the extra IMO. They often do local fairs etc so worth looking to see if they will be selling near you.Comment

Unfortunately they don’t come anywhere as far north as me. Interested that you think they are worth the extra money. Might look at the selection they have again, especially as if it works I would then use the garlic produces to grow in future years. How many cloves do you get roughly from each bulb that are big enough to plant? I was working on the assumption of about 10? Unfortunately I haven’t got any photos on my new phone of my garlic harvest from the garlic farm....but the results were great. I’ve had cloves from a local market, did well. Wilco’s were rubbish and possibly how I introduced the garlic rot - some looked a little suspect
why I tried them I can’t exactly remember - possibly because I saw them cheap! The garlic farm cloves were huge and I had the best ever crop from those - I saved some for the following year, though I haven’t sown any in a bed this year....just trying to give my ground a rest. I have them dotted about the garden.
You can plant cloves about 4-6 apart?Comment

Just to update, I bought garlic bulbs from the Garlic Farm. Am going to plant this weekend. I got a hardback and a softneck type to see which works best. Carcassonne Wight and Piccardy Wight. The bulbs seem good quality and size. I think i had heard that it isn't worth planting the small cloves so will probably put in about 65 total. Am looking forward to seeing how they do.Comment

i ordered this set of garlic not sure on their location but the were nice big bulbs and i was very pleased with them ,ive planted 120 cloves so far and still have some more to put inThe Dude abides.Comment
