  • Pinching Out Crown Prince

Growing Crown Prince squash for the first time. Plant is doing very well in a raised bed & currently 12ft long with 6 fruit set, two of which are already large from a late sowing.

What's the perceived wisdom about pinching out the tips? Best to let nature do it's thing?Click image for larger version

Is that the biggest fruit? They should be bigger than a big football by now.

Anyhow, yes, at this late stage of the year, you should take off the growing tips as they appear (mid Aug really)

As I said, it was a late sowing, planted out on 20th July so they are still young

I've read up more on it & if I do decide to pinch out it won't be for at least another month, I will decide then depending on the state of ripeness & fruit size.
