  • Storing Savoy Cabbage

We have a dozen savoy cabbages, which are ready for lifting/storing. The internet is full of "advice" on how to do it. So I'll keep it simple; should I spend time blanching, or can I just cut and hang in a cool dark shed.....or maybe half of each and see what happens? Thanks everyone! ??? ???

Cabbage has such a high water content that freezing is not an option I would go with....lesson for 2019 perhaps....succesional sowing

My fault, the seed packet said Savoy King F1 (early season variety), harvest Aug-Nov!! So think I will store some in the shed (cool and dark) blanch some (as last year, no problems) and leave a few in the ground for another few weeks!.

I leave my cabbages in the ground. Some end up deteriorating but usually I end up with a crop over a longer period.
When I lifted them and stored them the deterioration was more rapid.
If birds are a problem then I just throw a net over.
Obviously some cabbages hold their shape better than others but that is part of the learning curve.

As Salford White and also find they keep well in plastic bag in the fridge for a few weeks but only useful for 1 large one (or several small ones) being used in stages and also if you have the room.
