  • Issues germination of Spinach seeds

Hi all, this is my first post so please be kind.

I have recently been given 250 m2 of land that used to have chickens kept on.

Last year I cleared the land and put in a greenhouse and sheds and like to grow as much as possible and try not to buy any veg again (wishful thinking)

I am a complete novice to all this but do have a good understanding of the process (or think I do) and always happy to learn new things.

I have read online about sowing spinach seeds straight in the land after a few attempts I tried in a heated seed tray and normal seed trays. And not one seed has germinated.

    Am I missing something?

Hello and welcome Don't worry, everyone's kind here - except when they're being rude to me
Lucky you, having a piece of land to grow on.
A couple of questions for you -
Have you sown anything else on the land? - and has it grown?
When did you sow the spinach? It doesn't like hot weather so this may have a bearing on it.
    How old was the seed?
    Thanks

The seeds are only 8-12 months old but the soruce of them are unknown as i brought them from a well known online auction website.

I have not sowed anything else in the compound just these, i have planted plugs and everything else is going very well.

i sowed the seeds 2.5 weeks ago in the land and thought it could be birds that are causing the issue to illiminate this i brought a 40m x 25m net and covered the whole compound.

i gave up on the seeds in the garden and tried to grow them and plug them into the garden even after reading this is not a good idea.

not sure its relevent but im based in the Fen in East Anglia.

I am no expert as I can't stand the stuff, but seem to recall it doesn't like it too warm when germinating.

Welcome to the vine and enjoy the benefits of the advice and humour

Hello and welcome to the vine Thenashone

I sow my spinach in a shady spot it seems to germinate and grow better that way, if I was you I'd try sowing them again somewhere out of the sun. Hope this helps.
          Location....East Midlands.
